Volunteering at EVI

EVI are looking for volunteers to help support the many community services and activities available at the centre.

Did you know that EVI is a charity? The profits we make go straight back into our various community projects, providing services and activities for the people of Blaenau Gwent.

Be a part of our volunteer team and help us make a change in your area. Volunteers are invaluable to the successful future of our community and cultural centre. Make friends, gain work experience, and help others! We’d love to welcome you to our team. Enjoy free lunch and refreshments when you volunteer, as well as access to Tempo Time Credits (see below). Keep scrolling for more info! Please contact 01495 70 8022, email gavin@evi.cymru, or pop in to apply or for more information.

We’re looking for volunteers to help support the centre in a variety of ways:

Repair Café Volunteers

In 2023 our Repair Café saved 150 items from landfill, totalling around 360kg of waste, all thanks to our volunteers! We’re on the lookout for Volunteer Fixers to join the team; if you can sew, repair either electrical items, woodwork, bikes, jewellery, or more – we would love to hear from you. You don’t have to be an expert, just keen to share your skills to help the local community for just two hours, once a month. Find out more.

-Community Garden Volunteers

Do you love gardening, or just have some free time to spare and want to put it to good use? We need your help to maintain and develop our very own community garden! We use this relaxing space for educational workshops for families, support meetings, growing fruit and veg, and more. Come and join the team!

-Café Assistants / Over 55’s Luncheon Club / Dementia Cafe Volunteers

Our bustling Café at EVI is always in need of volunteers to assist with various tasks, whether it’s working front of house, serving, supporting community clubs, or helping in the kitchen. There are numerous opportunities to enhance your skills and confidence, along with the chance to participate in our free accredited Hospitality Academy, which includes Barista Training and Customer Service qualifications. Whether you’re looking to boost your CV or simply lend a hand to your community, there’s a role for you.

Community Bank Volunteers

Community Pantry Volunteers

Our Community Food Pantry supports over 200 households in Blaenau Gwent by helping them reduce their grocery bills and access a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, fridge and freezer essentials, meat, fish, pantry staples, and more. We offer a variety of roles, including front desk assistance, stock shopping, shelf stocking, shop attendant positions, fundraising, and more. Join our lovely and growing team of over 15 volunteers and make a difference in your area! Find out more here.

NEW: Volunteer Car Scheme

EVI is excited to introduce a new community car scheme aimed at providing affordable door-to-door transportation for Blaenau Gwent residents facing challenges accessing public transport. We’re seeking volunteer drivers with their own vehicles, as well as volunteers to help us coordinate and expand the scheme! Note: Volunteer drivers will be reimbursed for petrol expenses. Find out more here.

Volunteer Stories

One of our incredible volunteers, Sue, recently spoke to BBC Wales about how volunteering at EVI has ‘worked wonders’ for her! Liz also shares her EVI volunteering journey below.

By volunteering at EVI, you can also earn Time Credits for supporting your community.

For every hour you give, you earn one Time Credit. This can then be spent at EVI (events, classes and in the Café) or other venues throughout the UK e.g. the Tower of London, and can also be shared with friends and family.

Please contact 01495 70 8022, email gavin@evi.cymru, or pop in to apply or for more information.

We look forward to welcoming you to the EVI Team!
