Young people spend a lot of time online – scrolling, watching, chatting, learning, and creating. For the adults around them, it can sometimes feel hard to keep up or know where to start.

This relaxed, friendly session is for anyone in the community who cares about young people – parents, carers, youth workers, teachers, volunteers, grandparents, or anyone who just wants to understand a bit more about young people’s online world.

We’ll chat about TikTok, social media and algorithms in plain language, look at what young people are actually seeing online, and explore how this can affect confidence, mood, and wellbeing. There’s no judgement, no tech-expert talk — just honest conversation and practical ideas.

You’ll get:

-A clearer picture of what young people are doing on TikTok

-Simple explanations of how algorithms work

-Tips for supporting positive wellbeing online

Growing Up Online – About the Series

Growing Up Online is a free, three-part series of relaxed, welcoming sessions all about understanding young people’s digital lives today.

Across the sessions, we’ll explore the apps, platforms and technologies young people are using, how these shape everyday life and wellbeing, and how adults in the community can feel more confident keeping up with what’s going on online. The sessions are practical, friendly and jargon-free – no tech knowledge needed.

You’re welcome to come to all three sessions or just one — each session stands alone, so you can dip in where it feels most useful.
