The EVI’s main space is a 19th century hall, a large open space on the ground floor of the building with a 300 standing capacity, and various capacities in different configurations of seating. A fully licenced bar with beer on tap is situated at one end of the room, with removable staging and lighting at the other. Large near floor to ceiling windows provide a bright airy atmosphere and can be covered with permanently hung theatre grade black drapes to create a near blackout even on the brightest days, the windows are also soundproofed. The floor is flat, even wood and is suitable for dance. The venue is disabled accessible.
The venue’s standard staging consists of a 8×4 metre “LiteDeck” platform on 1.5 metre legs accessible by stairs on stage left. In its standard configuration the stage is carpeted and has a black drape to hide the space under the stage from view. The staging can be expanded/retracted by prior arrangement, or removed altogether for a completely flat room. Extra staging can be sourced by the EVI should it be required, or companies are welcome to source their own (LiteDeck is compatable with standard SteelDeck). For companies wishing to reconfigure the stage, a list of the in house hardware can be found below. Please also be aware that a charge may be levied for major reconfigurations to in house staging, please contact us to confirm. A list of in house hardware is below.

3X BEHRINGER ULTRA DI
1X 24 SENDS ANALOUGE MULTICORE
LARGE STOCK OF STANDS AND CABLE
SHURE/SENNHEISER MIC STOCK SUITABLE FOR MOST BANDS
The total power output of the FOH system is 4.5K, which is suitable for most artists. The system can be expanded to 8.5k by addition of 2x Yamaha DXR12 cabinets and 2X Yamaha DXS15 subwoofers for an extra charge.
The venue’s standard setup consists of a Behringer X32 compact connected to an S16 digital multicore on stage via the buildings Cat5 patches. This provides 16 sends and 8 returns to the stage (please bear in mind that these 8 outputs are used to feed the FOH system, as well as any monitoring on stage). Additional sends to the mix position can be provided by running out the venue’s 24 channel analogue multicore, allowing you to use the 16 preamps on the console alongside the S16
The EVI also carries an analogue alternative for engineers who would prefer to use it. The console is a Soundcraft K3 40 frame. 8 groups and 8 aux sends. A 24 channel multicore is available for use with this console (sends will need to be turned around to accommodate main outputs and monitor sends). Larger multicores can be arranged at additional cost. There is no outboard available in house for this console.
A basic lighting rig consisting of 8X LED parcans and 4X white beam moving heads mounted to a hexagonal type truss structure, along with a 3KW blinder, a hazer and a stage wash from FOH is available in the venue. Control is via Freestyler PC software with a USBDMX dongle. Hirers are welcome to bring their own lighting console and additional lights, though should please note that the truss is not standard 35mm gauge, and requires specialist clamps.
A patch sheet with all the venue fixtures current DMX addresses are available on request.
Basic consumer level projectors are available in house. A projection screen is also available, though please note that this is usually only suitable for presentation type events due to the amount of stage space the structure takes up. For performances requiring projection, the stage backs onto a large white wall, which is usually suitable.
A large, raised area above the bar can be designated as a production area/mix position should it be required (this area is occasionally allocated as extra seating, please check). This area contains adequate power/cat5 patches for most productions. Access is via a staircase in the room. Cameras can also be operated from this platform.
For those who would prefer to mix from audience level, a small area at the rear left of the room can be allocated as a mix position. Unfortunately due to the position of the bar, we have no facility to provide a central mix position at ground level.
Load in is a straight push from the street via a disabled access ramp (which is wide enough to fit most road cases) or up three steps. Load in is via the main doors to the building/auditorium. Three disabled parking spaces outside the venue can be used to load/unload. Once in the hall, equipment must be lifted onto stage, or carried up a 1.5 metre staircase.
Three disabled parking bays are available at the front of the venue for loading and unloading. There is an onsite car park, but access requires driving around the block and up an extremely steep, narrow road which is unfortunately nearly impossible in a van. On street parking around the venue is ample.
Two large, clean, warm dressing rooms are available, one on the ground floor and one on the upper level, both behind a passcoded door. Other rooms in the building can be converted into suitable dressing areas if required. On site catering is available during the daytime, and outside of usual hours by prior arrangement.
Due to the layout of the building, there is no backstage/wings in the performance space. Access for artists to the stage is through the main foyer, and through a door next to stage. There is no requirement for artists to walk through the audience, but they will need to walk through the public foyer space.
Storage of equipment can be arranged in many spaces throughout the building. There is ample space under the stage for most artists to store flight cases, instrument cases and unused equipment. High value items can be locked away in dressing rooms, which are behind a coded door, or locked in secure storage by the venue.
One house sound engineer will be provided to oversee technical aspects of the performance. They will also be responsible for operating the lighting during your performance.
Venue staff are usually on hand to assist with load in, should you require trained stage crew to assist with your get in, please advise us in advance. This will incur an extra cost.
The EVI has no overhead bars or flying system of any kind. This can make hanging backdrops difficult, please contact us directly to discuss options for hanging backdrops.
